About us

My journey to becoming the founder of Hugnaut

Our journey with Hugnaut began in 2022, the year our son was born by emergency caesarean section.

As expectant first-time parents, we had prepared thoroughly. We attended parenting classes, went for long walks and discussed parenting for hours. We checked off everything on the "must have as a new parent" list.

With my husband's birthday coming up, I wanted to give him something special – a gift that he could use with our baby, just for them. But despite hours of searching the internet, I couldn't find anything that fit. It surprised me. How could it be so difficult to find something that would allow him to form a strong bond with our newborn baby? In the end, I bought another gift that I knew he would appreciate, but the thought never left me: Why wasn't there anything out there for dads to use with their newborns?

After the birth, I was bedridden for several days recovering from intense pain from the C-section. During this time, my husband took care of our son when he was not breastfeeding. But despite my husband's care and love, our baby had trouble finding comfort in his arms and cried long into the night.

We were completely exhausted. On our second night in the hospital, a friendly nurse showed us a simple but brilliant solution: a tubular bandage, large enough for my husband to carry our son against his chest for skin-to-skin contact. It was a solution we had never heard of, despite our months of preparation for the birth. It changed everything. Our son finally found peace in his father's arms.

This carrier tube quickly became indispensable for my husband. He used it as often as he could and we noticed their bond growing stronger every day. The simple tool helped create a deep connection between them from the very beginning.

But despite its value, my husband expressed a need for improvements – support for the neck, extra support for the baby's bottom, etc. So I pulled out my old sewing machine from the basement, dusted it off and started sewing. Little did I know then that this would become one of the most important tools for us at the beginning of our parenting journey.

And so Hugnaut was born – "a hug pilot", created to strengthen the bond between parents and their newborn baby. What was created for our own sake has now become an opportunity for other fathers to create the same strong bond with their children - as we did.
